Island Beast was created for my 50th birthday celebration. It captured the spirit and interests surrounding my life as a waterman. I cherish the family and friends who shared the day with me. My hope is to pull off a 10 year anniversary event. Kirsten DeSanto created the short video

ISLAND BEAST LOGISTICS AND SUPPORT

STAGE 1
Event: Six Mile Kayak
Location: Modesky Park Boat Ramp
Arrival Time: 6:00am
Start Time: 6:30am
Participants: Zach Altenbach, Cade Altenbach
Kurtis Loftus, Kirsten Loftus
Description: Enter water with tandem kayaks and head
out through small channel to ICW. Paddle
will be south for apx six miles to the Beach
Blvd boat ramp.
Support: Altenbach family, Margaret Loftus,
Deb and Lee or Keith (transport SUPer)
Our plan is 1.5hrs. Food and drinks will be
on hand when we arrive at the Beach Blvd.
boat ramp (bagels, yogurt, juice & water).
Christian Davis, who is handling Stage 4
(SUP), will meet us at the ramp and require
transport in his vehicle over to the stage 4
location. Once he is dropped, the vehicle
will later be used to pick him up after his
Stage 7 road bike (more info to follow).

STAGE 2
Event: Two Mile Swim
Location: Beach Marine Boat Ramp
Arrival Time: 7:30am
Start Time: 8:00am
Participants: Michael Altenbach, Tim Deegan
Description: Boat with swimmers and kayak support
launch from Beach Marine boat ramp and
head under Beach Blvd. bridge to south
edge of No Wake Zone. Swimmers enter
water on the west side of ICW and stroke
southward toward JTB bridge and Stage 4
transition — 4253 Cordgrass Inlet, 32250.
Support: Sean Altenbach (other kayakers TBD) —
Kurtis, Kirsten Loftus, documentation.
We might need a driver to pick up
participants at Stage 4.
Tim Deegan (currently) does not require
transport back to Beach Marine after his
swim and the Altenbachs are solid...
just in case I would like the individual
driving Christian Davis to remain for the
swimmers at Cordgrass Inlet 9:30am

STAGE 3
Event: Ten Mile SUP
Location: Isle of Palms (4253 Cordgrass Inlet)
Arrival Time: 9:00am
Start Time: 9:30am
Participants: Christian Davis
Description: Currently, this is a one-man SUP effort.
Thank you Christian!
Paul Wilson is willing to go, however he
needs a board and paddle.
The paddle from the JTB bridge 10 miles
southward to the Palm Valley bridge is one
of my favorite ICW recreational areas.
Support: Kurtis, Margaret, Kirsten, Keith
Deb and Lee
Boat stays with SUP for apx. 2 miles and
returns back to Beach Boulevard boat
ramp, refuels and is transported to Palm
Valley launch and meets back with
SUPer north of Palm Valley Bridge.
Christian’s vehicle will be waiting at the
Palm Valley ramp 11:00am.
Christian is transported to Vilano Beach
where he is dropped off for Stage 7.

STAGE 4
ISLAND BEAST LOGISTICS AND SUPPORT

Event: Nineteen Mile Wakeboard
Location: Palm Valley Bridge Boat Ramp
Arrival Time: 10:30am
Start Time: 11:00 - 11:30am
Participants: Kurtis and Kirsten Loftus, James and
Jamie Galley (others.. any family?
Brittany, Heathe, etc... TBD)
Description: Launch from Palm Valley bridge boat ramp.
Crew will be about 6 to 8 on boat. This is a
spectacular waterway journey that covers
about 19 miles. The surfers will drop at
Vilano just north of inlet. Surfers and road
bikes will be stationed at main entrance to
Vilano Beach.
Support: Keith, Deb, Lee and Margaret
Kurtis vehicle and boat trailer is driven to
the Vilano Beach Boat ramp. Keith and his
bike should be part of this effort (Keith and
Deb?) Wake team arrives apx. 12:30pm.
After pulling out of the water, we all meet
for a quick surf at Vilano Beach (apx 1pm).

STAGE 5
Event: .5 hr Surf
Location: Vilano Beach public parking
Arrival Time: 1:00pm
Start Time: 1:30pm
Participants: Kurtis, Jamie Borders, Christian Davis,
Mike Drabin, Altenbachs?
Description: A chance to get in the ocean and maybe
catch a couple waves. Depending on prior
events, we might have less or more than .5
Support: Margaret, Kirsten, Keith, Claire,
Deb and Lee
Individuals who traveled on the boat from
Palm Valley to Vilano will require
transport back to their cars.

STAGE 6
NOTE:
We are now projected to be about 1 hour
behind my original schedule leaving Vilano
Beach. This time will be made up by the
cyclist traveling 21 miles north into Ponte
Vedra (additional 4 mi) — please pay close
attention to the following times and
locations. The runners distance (Stage 8)
has been shortened to 5 miles.
Event: Twenty-one Mile Road Bike
Location: Vilano Beach public parking
Arrival Time: 1:30pm
Start Time: 2:00pm
Participants: Christian Davis, Keith Loftus,
Brittany Norris others TBD
Description: Start from Vilano and head north on AIA at
15 to 20mph pace to Ponte Vedra Inn &
Club. The route leaves AIA north of
Micklers on Ponte Vedra Blvd. Cyclists end
at corner of Corona and Ponte Vedra Blvd.
Support: Deb, Lee, Claire and Margaret?

Ponte Vedra Inn and Club after dropping

STAGE 7
Event: Five Mile Run
Location: Ponte Vedra Inn and Club

Description: The run was shortened to make up time
lost in Vilano Beach. Runners head north
into Jacksonville Beach Lathem Plaza
(Jacksonville Beach Seawalk Pavillion).
The route is simple... Ponte Vedra Blvd
onto 1st Street in Jax Bch. Five miles is
still a workout. I appreciate the runners
willing to go in the middle of the afternoon.

STAGE 8

Location: Jacksonville beach Seawalk Pavillion

Description: Fun skate through the streets of
Jacksonville Beach north through Neptune
Beach and ending at One Ocean in
Atlantic Beach.
